This course is designed to help students become more accurate, fluent, confident, and independent readers. We will use explicit, systematic phonics instruction from the 95 Percent Group Phonics Lesson Library Multisyllable Phonics Kit to strengthen students' abilities to read longer and more complex words. Students will practice breaking words into syllables, recognizing spelling patterns, reading words accurately, and using those skills when reading real texts.

Welcome to English! We will be reading a wide variety of texts, mainly nonfiction and literary texts that span throughout all kinds of themes and ideas. We will also be practicing our writing skills, through essays and critical analysis of the texts we read. By the end of the course, our goal is for you to be able to read, analyze, and critique texts at a college-level.
