Mr. Faulkner
Hello!
My name is Ethan Faulkner and I am an English teacher at Edward R. Roybal Learning Center. In the 2024-2025 school year, I teach American Literature/Contemporary Composition (English 11) and Modern Literature/Expository Composition (English 12). More information about each of these classes can be found below.

English 11
English 11 focuses on strengthening and developing students' skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This year is important as it is the year that students take the SBAC. This test helps determine college placement in English and Math classes when applying to four-year school in California. Throughout the year students read influential pieces of American literature and analyze them to learn how the United States of America has been shaped and/or influenced through writing.
Our classes units of study include the following:
FALL
- Intro to Rhetoric
- Rhetoric of the Revolution
- Rhetoric of Civil Rights
- American Gothic Literature
SPRING
- The Crucible
- Essential Skills Bootcamp
- Ordinary Lives, Extraordinary Tales
