In English Language Arts, students do more than read books and write essays. They learn to think critically, communicate with purpose, understand different perspectives, and make sense of the world around them.

Across four years, students build the literacy, communication, and critical-thinking skills they need to succeed in college, careers, and life beyond high school.

English 9 | Discover

Students build a strong foundation as readers, writers, and communicators. Through literature and informational texts, they explore identity, perspective, and big ideas while learning to support their thinking with evidence and develop their own voices.

English 10 | Question

Students take their thinking further by examining complex texts, arguments, and perspectives. They learn to evaluate evidence, recognize how authors influence audiences, conduct research, and develop compelling arguments of their own.

English 11 | Connect

Students explore American literature and diverse voices while examining the connections between literature, culture, history, and society. They synthesize ideas across texts, engage with complex questions, and develop thoughtful perspectives on the world around them.

English 12 | Launch

Students bring their skills together as independent readers, writers, researchers, and communicators. They apply what they have learned to authentic academic, professional, and real-world situations—preparing them to confidently navigate what comes next.

Throughout the program, students learn to:
