Advanced Placement

Our Advanced Placement (AP) Program provides students with opportunities to challenge themselves through rigorous, college-level coursework while developing the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for success beyond high school. With a diverse range of AP courses, students can explore their interests, deepen their understanding of academic disciplines, and prepare for the demands of college and future careers.

 

Our school offers 15 AP courses across the sciences, mathematics, arts, English, world languages, and social sciences:

• Science: AP Biology, AP Physics

• Mathematics: AP Calculus AB, AP Statistics

• English: AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition; AP Seminar

• Visual Arts: AP 2-D Art and Design

• World Languages: AP Spanish Language and Culture, AP Spanish Literature and Culture

• Social Sciences: AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP U.S. History, AP U.S. Government and Politics; AP Psychology

 

Why Take AP Courses?

Taking AP courses throughout high school can help students build a strong foundation for success in college and beyond. AP coursework gives students the opportunity to:

• Experience college-level learning: AP courses introduce students to the depth, pace, and expectations of college coursework while they still have the support of their high school teachers and community.

• Develop essential academic skills: Students strengthen critical thinking, problem-solving, research, writing, communication, and time-management skills that are valuable across college majors and careers.

• Explore academic interests: With AP offerings across numerous disciplines, students can discover areas they may want to pursue in college while challenging themselves in subjects they enjoy.

• Build confidence and independence: Successfully navigating rigorous coursework helps students develop the persistence, self-advocacy, and study habits needed to become independent learners.

• Demonstrate academic readiness: AP coursework allows students to show colleges that they are willing to take on meaningful academic challenges and pursue their educational goals.

• Potentially earn college credit or placement: Depending on the college or university and a student's AP exam results, students may be able to earn college credit, place out of introductory courses, or fulfill certain requirements. Policies vary by institution.

• Make the transition to college smoother: Experience with college-level expectations can help students feel more prepared to manage the academic demands they will encounter after graduation.

 

Our commitment to providing students with meaningful access to advanced coursework has been recognized by the College Board AP School Honor Roll. This recognition celebrates schools that demonstrate a commitment to expanding access to AP opportunities, supporting student achievement, and preparing students for college and career success. We are proud to have received the AP Honor Roll Award for both the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 school years.

 

We believe AP courses are not simply about earning college credit—they are an opportunity for students to challenge themselves, discover their strengths, develop lasting academic skills, and prepare for their next steps. Students are encouraged to build an AP pathway that reflects their interests, goals, and readiness for increased academic challenge throughout high school.

     Students who take AP classes are expected to complete the AP exam associated with the class. Students need to ensure that they enroll in AP Classroom before the deadline. Once students are registered for AP Classroom, it is the student's responsibility to communicate any course changes to the AP Coordinator. When students take the exam and earn a score of 3 or higher, they become eligible for college credit. 

     The CollegeBoard dictates the exam dates, which cannot be changed, so students should arrive on time and be prepared to take their exam at the appointed time.

Art and Design: Friday, May 7, 2027 (8 p.m. ET), is the deadline for AP Art and Design students to submit their three portfolio components as final in the AP Digital Portfolio.
