Our school participates in a variety of district, state, and College Board assessments throughout the school year. These assessments provide valuable information about what our students know and can do, while helping us identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth.
We use assessment results, alongside classroom learning and other sources of student information, to guide instruction, inform educational decisions, and ensure that we are meeting the diverse needs of all learners. Our goal is not simply to prepare students for a test, but to use what we learn from assessments to continually improve teaching and learning.
Through thoughtful use of assessment data, we strive to provide every student with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to be successful in life after high school—whatever path they choose, including college, career, technical education, military service, or other pursuits.
- District Assessments: I-Ready
- State Assessments: CAASPP Smarter Balance Assessment ELA, CAASPP Smarter Balance Assessment Math, California Science Test, and California Alternate Assessment (for qualifying students).
- College Board Assessments: PSAT, SAT, AP exams
- I-Ready: I-Ready provides teachers, students, and parents information about a student's current grade-level performance in Reading and Math. It also helps identify areas where students would benefit from additional practice to help them reach grade-level. This assessment helps track students learning throughout the year with a beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year test.
- Smarter Balanced Assessment ELA & Math: The Smarter Balance Assessment in ELA and Math are assessments given to 11th grade students to measure their knowledge and skills in English and Math. The assessment helps determine how well students are able to demonstrate proficiency of the Common Core State Standards in that subject. Students who meet or exceed standard on either or both of these assessments demonstrate to most colleges and universities that they are prepared for college level courses in that content area.
- California Science Test: The California Science Test is given to 11th grade students and measures their knowledge of Earth Science, Physical Science, and Life Science.
- PSAT/NMSQT: The PSAT/NMSQT helps students understand the score they would most likely receive if they took the SAT at the same time. This assessment also acts as the National Merit Scholarship Qualification Test which can help students who score well to have access to scholarships to help pay for college.
- SAT: The SAT is a standardized test that measures a student's preparedness for higher education. While many schools have not required SAT scores as part of the application in previous years, some universities (especially private universities) may begin requiring SAT scores as part of the application process. There are also some scholarships that require a certain SAT score to be eligible.
- AP Exams: AP Exams measure a students knowledge and skills in the tested subject. Students who receive a passing score on the assessment may be eligible to get college credit for the course and avoid having to take it while in college.
