School-Based Counseling Services VS Community Mental Health Services
Is a school counseling session with a Psychiatric Social Worker the same as with an outside therapist?
NO. School PSW meets with student on an individual basis to deal with crisis management and problem solving. A Community Mental Health agency will provide more intensive, and ongoing therapy. School PSW conversations are confidential between the PSW and student unless there is a safety concern to break that confidentiality.
