English 10 (Period 4)
Course Description
English Language Arts 10 is a year-long course designed to build on the foundational skills developed in earlier grades and to prepare students for more advanced studies in literature, writing, and critical thinking. This course emphasizes the development of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through a variety of literary genres, including novels, plays, poetry, short stories, and non-fiction texts.
Students will explore themes such as identity, justice, and the human experience while engaging in close reading and analysis of both classic and contemporary works. The course also integrates the study of language, including vocabulary development, grammar, and style, to enhance students' writing abilities.
Writing assignments will include argumentative essays, literary analysis, research papers, and creative writing, with a focus on developing clear, coherent, and persuasive writing. Students will also participate in discussions, presentations, and collaborative projects to build their communication skills.
This course aligns with the California Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy and is intended to prepare students for success in the 11th grade and beyond
